Who said that girls can't play football? Oh how wrong they were, as a local ladies team is swiftly kicking the footballing world into shape!

Torrevieja Ladies FC, is the city's official ladies football team and equivalent to the celebrated men's team FC Torrevieja. It was established 12 years ago, and caters for the growing number of women who share a passion for the sport and have something valuable to contribute on the pitch. The team comprises of six Brits and two Latin American players, as well as the skilled Spaniards, who are pulled together under the guidance of their Trainer/ Manager, Javier Gomez Alcaraz. The team has continued to go from strength to strength, with the 2006/07 season being a particular turning point, when they finished at the top of the 2nd Regional League, winning promotion to the 1st Regional League, and only one league away from the national table, La Liga. This saw the girls competing against high profile teams including Valencian giants, ‘Villa Real', and some of the best female players in the Region, so the girls really had to up their game if they were to make any great impact.
